At Bridgepoint Music, we believe that high-quality live performances should be available to everyone, from school children to families and audiences of every background, age, race and gender. Sadly, people who live in care homes are often unable to go to live events and the provision of great musical experiences within the homes are often patchy or non-existent. The pandemic has only exacerbated the sense of cultural isolation that many care home residents feel and therefore, as soon as we are able, we want to start a new venture, Bridgepoint in Mind, which will involve our musicians giving live performances in care homes across East Sussex and Kent.
The benefits of hearing live music, responding to it, singing along and feeling part of the performance can be a hugely powerful experience for all and particularly those living with dementia. The social and therapeutic benefits are enormous and helping those that are excluded from the cultural sphere is a high priority for us. We don’t just expect the sit in a glass box and wait for people to come and hear us play in the concert hall- we also bring music, to life.
