Ian Rathbone started playing the violin at the age of three with the London Suzuki Group. Aged eleven, he changed to the viola and was awarded a scholarship to the Royal College of Music Junior Department. Ian went on to study with David Takeno at the Guildhall, Milan Skampa in Prague and Thomas Riebl in Salzburg.
Ian enjoys a busy and varied freelance career, working with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Orchestra Revolutionnaire et Romantique, Mahler Chamber
Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra as well as playing in commercial sessions for film scores.
